Vibro-Tek Industries, founded in 1996 in Surrey, British Columbia, by Canadian inventor Sheldon Lavineway, introduced the innovative Double Whammy tremolo system. This unique vibrato bar allows guitarists to independently manipulate the pitch of different string groups, enhancing musical expression.

The Double Whammy tremolo system features independently movable plates, each supporting one or more guitar strings. This design enables guitarists to apply tremolo effects to specific strings or groups of strings, offering greater versatility. A sliding clip engages adjacent plates, allowing for simultaneous tremolo effects across all strings or selected groups. Each plate is equipped with a tremolo arm, facilitating independent operation and diverse sound modulation.

Sheldon Lavineway’s commitment to advancing guitar technology is further exemplified by his development of the Trem King vibrato system. This system, designed for guitars with fixed bridges, maintains consistent intonation and string height, addressing common issues found in other designs.

Vibro-Tek’s product line includes:

  • Double Whammy Tremolo System: Allows independent pitch manipulation of different string groups, providing enhanced musical expression. This would later become known as Trem King.
